For people living with an ultra-rare disease, specialized treatment may not be available close to home. Traveling to a treatment center can bring additional expenses for transportation, lodging, meals, and other needs at a time when patients and families may already be managing significant healthcare costs.
The Waskyra Travel Assistance Program, supported by Orphan Therapies and administered by Accessia Health, provides eligible patients with certain travel-related expenses, helping reduce the financial barriers between them and the specialized care they need.

To be eligible for assistance, an individual must meet all of the following requirements
Before applying, patients must confirm that they are not eligible to receive assistance through any other available program.
Patients may not be eligible for this program if adequate health insurance coverage, assistance from a Qualified Treatment Center, or third-party charitable assistance is available.
Applicants may be required to provide verification that they are not eligible for these other sources of assistance.
Patient organizations may offer education, support, and resources for individuals and families affected by Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome. Accessia Health and Orphan Therapies cannot guarantee that assistance is available through these organizations.
This program is funded by Fondazione Telethon® through Orphan Therapies and administered by Accessia Health and operates pursuant to a pending request for an Advisory Opinion from the Office of Inspector General.

Once your application is submitted and your eligibility has been reviewed and approved, you will receive a card in the mail to use for approved travel expenses.
Travel assistance is provided in the form of a payment assistance card. This card will be received within 10-14 business days. Once received, you can activate the card through your patient portal or by calling (855) 282-0533.
Applicants must provide information confirming U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency, a diagnosis of Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, a physician order for WASKYRA, and household income at or below 600% of the Federal Poverty Limit.
Applicants may also be asked to verify that other sources of travel assistance are not available.
Depending on the distance to the Qualified Treatment Center, assistance may be available for ground transportation, mileage reimbursement, or airfare. Call (855) 282-0533 before booking travel to confirm which transportation expenses are eligible.

For this program, modest lodging means reasonably priced accommodations, including hotels and other lodging recommended by your Qualified Treatment Center.

No, in order to receive assistance with airfare, individuals must reside more than 300 miles from the Qualified Treatment Center (QTC). For those living less than 300 miles from the QTC, mileage reimbursement or ground transportation assistance may be provided.
The payment card you will receive can only be used for expenses such as gas, lodging or airfare, based on your location from the treatment site. To receive assistance with the cost of food, up to the daily amount for “Meals and Incidentals” as established by the U.S. General Services Administration, please submit receipts showing what was purchased by whom.
Orphan Therapies is a subsidiary of the Orphan Therapeutics Accelerator (OTXL), a non-profit organization that obtains shelved treatments that have advanced to clinical trials and works with partners to complete their development at low cost. Once approved, these treatments may be commercialized through Orphan Therapies or licensing agreements with biotech or other organizations.
