Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare, life-threatening disorder that causes blood clots to form in small blood vessels throughout the body. These clots can limit or block vessels and restrict blood flow to organs such as the brain, kidneys, and heart.
According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, TTP occurs when you do not have the right amount of an enzyme (a type of protein in your blood) called ADAMTS13. This enzyme controls how your blood clots. If you do not have enough ADAMTS13, your body makes too many blood clots.
