Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is any type of epithelial lung cancer other than small cell lung cancer (SCLC). There are several types of NSCLCs but the most common are squamous cell carcinoma, large cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Although NSCLCs are associating with cigarette smoking, adenocarcinomas may be found in patients who never smoked.
It is estimated that there will be approximately 240,000 new cases of lung cancer this year and at least 127,000 deaths. It is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality in the United States.
