Gaucher disease results from the buildup of certain fatty substances in certain organs such as your spleen or liver. This causes organs to enlarge and can also cause build up in bone tissue, weakening the bone and potentially leading to fractures. This can affect bone marrow and cause blood clotting issues. The enzyme that breaks down these fatty substances does not work properly and treatment often involves enzyme replacement therapy.
