About Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors

A Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) is a type of tumor that is found in the gastrointestinal tract, most often in the stomach or small intestine. Symptoms may include anemia, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and weight loss. GIST can develop in all ages, but is most common between age 50 and 70. In some rare cases, GIST can be inherited through a genetic mutation.
