Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (ALPHA-1) is a genetic condition that is passed from parent to child through their genes.  Alpha-1 may result in serious lung disease and/or liver disease.  First symptoms and signs usually develop between ages 20 and 50 with the earliest symptoms being shortness of breath, reduced ability to exercise and wheezing.
